Overweight Teen Diet--Finding The Right Plan

The Elements of a Good Diet Plan

A good diet for an overweight teen includes one that recognizes the fact, that a teenager's body is still growing. This is so important because many modern diet plans attempt to simply cut out a specific food group. And while this may result in short term weight loss, it doesn't do much for the future.

Teenagers need to learn how to eat correctly, so education should be key to any weight loss plan created for teens. They need to know how to choose healthy meals and snacks, and not simply rely on a specific diet plan. Don't get me wrong, a set diet plan is ok to jumpstart weight loss, but teens must also learn how to eat well for the long term.

Although teens bodies are different from adults, in that they are going through a time of tremendous growth, and hormonal swings. The weight loss equation remains the same. One pound is equal to 3500 calories. This means that you would have to get rid of 3500 calories in one. week. To gain some perspective, the average woman eats 1800 calories a day, while an active man might consume much more.

So now that we have some perspective 35oo calories is about 2 days of food for the average woman. I know it seems like a lot, but this decrease in calories doesn't have to come all from food, it also can come from exercise. This would simply mean giving up 1 large Mcdonalds fries (540 calories), or one small fry (210) and walking briskly for approximately 30 minutes. That's really not that bad. So there you go, one important tool in your fight against the bulge. If you are interested in an excellent teen diet plan, than check out this Healthy Teen Plan
