Overweight Teen Diet--The Weight Loss Equation

Although teens bodies are different from adults, in that they are going through a time of tremendous growth, and hormonal swings. The weight loss equation remains the same. One pound is equal to 3500 calories. This means that you would have to get rid of 3500 calories in one. week. To gain some perspective, the average woman eats 1800 calories a day, while an active man might consume much more.

So now that we have some perspective 35oo calories is about 2 days of food for the average woman. I know it seems like a lot, but this decrease in calories doesn't have to come all from food, it also can come from exercise. Now for arguments sake, let's say that you or your teen wanted to lose 1 pounds a week. Divided by 7 days, this would mean that you will need to get rid of 500 calories a day. This would simply mean giving up 1 large Mcdonalds fries (540 calories), or one small fry (210) and walking briskly for approximately 30 minutes. That's really not that bad.
